Afs offers support through the entire process. Being a host family with sts means that you welcome an exchange student between 15 18 years from another country to your family. Open your home for one of our lovely exchange students. Being a host family is a voluntary initative.

What becoming a host family means hosting an afs international student or teacher is your family s chance to experience a new culture in your own home. We are looking for dedicated host families across all new zealand. By welcoming an international student you will not only get a friend for life but also get to know a whole new culture and create many lovely memories together. The students come to new zealand to learn english to go to a new zealand high school and to experience the kiwi culture.

To become a host family please email the accommodation manager melinda hobman. You can choose to become a host family for 3 6 or 10 months. Afs friendships last a lifetime expand your horizons and give you a new son daughter or friend. When we get new student applications we look at the interests of the students and host families and try to ensure a good match of personalities and hobbies.

Our accommodation manager chooses the family she thinks is most suitable and asks if they would like to host the student sending them the student profile enrolment dates and an introduction.
